Question:

We'd like to change our stucco ceilings into a regular 'flat ceilings. Is there a way to remove the stucco easily or would we need to remove the ceilings and put up new drywall?

Answer:

Rather than monkey with the texture, I'd put a new layer of half-inch drywall right over the whole thing. Most of the heat loss in any room is through the ceiling and the more bulk you have there the more energy you conserve.
