Question:

We need help in selecting a duct cleaning company. I think I once heard you say that the machine should have certain specs relating to how good a vacuuming job it does. Could you please advise what we should check for when seeking a cleaner. Will such data be stamped on his machine? Will some specs be inflated? Is it worth having ducts professionally cleaned?

Answer:

The machine should move 20K cubic feet of air per minute but that is not under load. These specs are not necessarily stamped on the machine. The other thing is that because this 20K is variable and may drop to 12K or 14K under load, most companies that do the work will also push 8K to 12K through each outlet with a hand held machine. My suggestion is to have this done every four years and it would be good to develop confidence in one local company and have them keep coming back.
