Question:

I have listened to you for year, and I'd like to thank you very much for putting me to work on the weekends!
Here is my dilemma. I will building a new house in the Ottawa area, the house will be a loft, open concept, with high ceiling and lots of glass. I have talked to so many people about different ways of heating the house that I am now totally confused. Should I go with radiant floor heat or forced air, Gas 'as in propane, the house will be in the country' or oil, and finally if I do go with radiant heat what type of boiler should I go with?
The Questions are endless, and to add to the equations if I go with radiant heat what is the best way to cool the house?
Ren I need a Expert. I have done me research but they all seem to contradict themselves when you get down to the numbers and it is hard to compare apples to oranges, can someone please make this simple!!!!!

Answer:

Radiant heat is about the most effective but then you must decide if it will by hydronic or electrical. They're both good and in the Ottawa, Ontario, area I would try for a high efficiency oil burner for it. Nothing about houses is confusing if you take it one step at a time; What do I need done? What are my options? Do I have access to dependable people to do the job? What are the associated costs? Just as easy as that.
