Question:

I recently moved in to a newly built home and want to get the ducts and cold air return cleaned. I realize there are an abundance of company's that provide this service and was wondering what I should be looking for and expecting to spend. Is it it correct to assume that I should be going with someone who sends a vacuum/brush type thing through the duct or is vacuuming sufficient?

Answer:

This is a job you're going to have done every four or so years and I've never had a problem wiht simply getting them vacuumed. The machine should have at least 20K CFM capacity and you'll spend something up to $10.00 per outlet. Be careful of the specials because they'll get you at the other end and the other thing to be careful of is not to necessarily hire someone who doesn't have a local phone number.
