Question:

I plan to put up walls in by basement to cover the heating area. I find that there are ducts and pipes runing thru the joists in the ceiling. How could I set up the wall frame in this case ?

Answer:

My system for this is to install 2X4 blocking between the joists under the ducts and fasten the doubled 2X4 top plate of my new wall to them. The blocks should be there every 2 to 3 feet and attaching to them should be with screws.
