Question:

With Y2K and winter; how could I protect our residential hot water radiator heating system from freezing if we lose electricity? We have radiators in the basement that will not drain. Could we fill the system with car anti-freeze?

Answer:

Rather than that, I think I'd want to talk to your local furnace technician and if it is still a worry, a drain valve can be installed at the lowest point in the basement line to let you sleep better.
