I am interested in purchasing an older war veteran style home with a gas boiler and radiators for a heating system. The boiler is about 10-12 years old. What are the advantages or disadvantages of such a system and should this be considered to have a negative effect on the property value on resale ?

Provided it is in good condition, there are no real negatives because its about the most even heat you'll ever get. You might want to talk to your insurance people about the age of the components though.
