Question:

I would like to install a gas log set in my existing fireplace. It is open on two sides at right angles. At present there is a strong "ash" smell and I would like to get rid of that before installing the log set. I've tried vacuuming and scrubbing. Are there any products specifically for fireplace smell?

Answer:

I think you're talking more about a moisture problem than anything else. If you get the chimney cleaned, all of this can be analyzed and rectified. Chimney cleaning is not a DIY project.
