Question:

I notice small grey spots on the ceiling over the tub. I suspect that that this is mould. The ceiling is "stippled". On closer examination it appears that the paint has bubbled. I probably need a better fan but how do I get rid of the spots? How should I prepare the ceiling to insure that the spots don't become a more serious problem.

Answer:

You're right, they're mould and when you install a 110 cfm exhaust fan and use it every time there is water runnning int he tub, the ceiling dry out. That will permit you to take a 3" putty knife to the bubbles and then sand and prime before painting. The mould will go away by itself when things have dried out in there.
