Question:

I was going to install a flow through humidifier on our furnace to replace the drum type humidifier. I was first thinking about getting rid of any humidifier but our place tends to be too dry in the cold weather. The furnace is about 14 years old. The drum humidifier was installed by the previous owner. I was wondering if I should be putting our money into installing a HRV instead. I'm not sure if a HRV can take the place of a humidifier or not. I don't want to install a flow through if a HRV is a better option.

Answer:

A humidifier will not be replaced efficiently by an HRV so let's start
