Question:

I am getting two opinions on insulating my old cottage walls. I am putting in a new kitchen and also considering new siding. The contractor is saying we should remove interior pine in kitchen and reinsulate and new vapour barrier. The second opinion is to remove siding strap and reinsulate and this will be more effective. My contractor feels that to insulate from outside can't be done as well because you can't put a new vapur barrier in without removing old barrier and insulation

Answer:

Its a laot more work and money doing it from the inside but it's also a better job. The old siding has to come off anyway but under that, there is a sheathing that you don't really want to monkey with unless you absolutely have to.
