I have a 50 year old home with a crawl space. I recently had the inside perimeter walls spray foam insulated. There is batting of insulation up along the floors but no vapour barrier. Should I put a vapour barrier under the insulation? My hardwood floors in my house are still cold. As well I had a vapour barrier laid on the dirt before I had the spray foam done. Should I get this up off the dirt or is it not a problem?
Answer:
The insulation on the ceiling of your crawl space serves to isolate the room above rather than permitting the heat from the crawlspace to warm it up. I'd leave the VB on the dirt floor but I'm a bit surprised that the people who foamed your walls didn't mention taking the bats out of the ceiling.
Remember, even if you don’t do your own work around the house have to hire someone, you put yourself at a great advantage when you can intelligently discuss a project with the various trades people.
