Top > Insulation > Duct

Question:

We live in a 17-year-old, two story just north of Bolton, Ontario. We are the original owners. I would like to put exhaust fans in the 2 upper bathrooms. Both have windows so the builder probably thought that was enough. The only problem is where to run them out. I thought to go through the soffit rather than the roof which might cause leaks.

Answer:

I'd run the ducts under the insulation to the soffits and if I had to go over the attic floor joists, I'd cover the ducts with at least R-28 bats.
