I will be building a cottage this summer . It will be sitting on concrete block piers 3 feet off the ground and consist of 2x10 floor joists covered with 5/8 T&G plywood floor. I was woundering what would be the best way to insulate the floor? However after reading through the question and answer information I get the impression that you would not insulate the floor at all. Could you please tell me why?
Answer:
Insulating the floor actually isolates rather than insulates. You close up a cavity and it attracts condensation. That condensation has nowhere to go except into the wooden structural componants and that's where the real problem starts in the form of rot. This is not to even mention the ideal habitation you can create for all kinds of vermin.
