As a member of our condominium corporation, we are in the process of gathering bids for new garage doors for our 50 units. We currently have single wood doors, the garages are not heated and there is a partial room over the garage. Considering this information, how important is the R factor insulation?
Answer:
If the garage is not heated, I wouldn't put money into insulated garage doors because the amount that's there won't do anything for you. You're better off putting that kind of money into repairing the wooden doors you have even if panels have to be replaced. No matter what you get there, it will need regular care just like your insulated units. You are not going to positively impact on the warmth in the rooms above by installing insulated garage doors; weather stripping on the other hand, must be a first consideration.
