I would like to insulate my attached garage. I find in the summer the heat inside the garage is almost unbearable. Would insulating the garage help control the heat in the garage in the summer? The ceiling is 12 feet high and finished with drywall and uninsulated, two of the walls are insulated, one is not. Is it worth the expense to insulate and if so does the ceiling and the one uninsulated wall require a vapor barrier?
Answer:
Insulation in caes like this always requires a vapour barrier. I don't know that insulation is as much your problem as is ventilation. Try replacing the attic door with a framed screen and that might bring you comfort at a minimum cost. Insulating everything may not do that.
