Question:

Basically its dividing our master bedroom to make a nusrery. Its a standered bungalow 1 large bedroom in back and two smaller in front of house the owners before us had taken the 2 front rooms and and taken the wall out which makes a huge master bedroom they left the doors the same, but the rooms were split 50/50 and we would like to do 75/25. Space is an issue and the narrower the wall the better - usually walls are put up useing 2x4 can you use smaller to eliminate the space in which the wall takes and is there any special trick in which to put a wall up.

Answer:

Hopefully the strapping for the ceiling drywall runs at 90-degrees to the wall you plan to install. I'm afraid using less than 2X4 will lose too much structural integrity. Do this one right and you may reap more benefits later - the child grows up and you want a walk-in closet. All you need do is open a door inside the bedroom and the door that is presently slated to be used for the smaller bedroom can serve as a linen closet door and you don't even have to separate it from the closet with a wall.
