On a random basis we get a strange smell in the bathroom that smells like a chemical smell. My daughter says it smells like period time. It is not a septic smell. We have a corner shower and an air tub in the bathroom along with a synthetic sink and a toilet. Could this smell be the fiberglass backing in the shower out gassing. The is a small area at the top that is not sealed. I am really baffled since I cannot locate the source.

It could very well be coming from the pipes of your air tub - paticularly if it is left un-used for weeks at a time.
