I am planning on adding a bedroom, den, rec room and bathroom to my unfinished basement. The bathroom plumbing was not 'roughed-in' when the house was built 3 years ago, so the renovator will need to start with this. I understand that my choices are 1) break the part of the concrete floor to install the plumbing or 2) install something that will sit above the concrete. 1) Are you aware of any other choices? 2) If we choose to break the concrete floor, how long after re-pouring the new floor do we need to wait before we can finish the bathroom? 3) If we choose not to break the floor, but rather to design the bathroom with a raised floor, approximately how much clearance would we need (ie: how much higher would the bathroom floor be above the regular basement floor)?
Answer:
No matter how you approach it, you'll have to break up the floor to attach drainage to the soil pipe so that's settled. Once the new concrete is surface dry, you can start building above it.
