We inherited a cast iron tub with a house we just finished renovating. The people before put all these 'lovely' no-slip stick-ons all over the bottom. The vinyl part has dried out completely and flaked right off, but I cannot get the plastic or the adhesive off the porcelain. There is only one small mark on the inside of the tub so I don't want to have the whole thing refinished. What can I use to take this adhesive off without damaging the finish?
Answer:
Actually, the finish under the stick-ons is the undamaged portion. It was well protected while the sticker was there and now that you've removed it, you are looking at what abrasive cleaners can do to the baked finish on the tub itself. To get rid of the marks, you'll end up re-finishing the whole tub and that is a chemically baked-on product so it is done professionally.
