I have a good exhaust fan in the upstairs bath. It vents through the attic and over to the soffit. It is flex duct and I buried most of it in the insulation. When it gets cold like today and I shower with the exhaust on, a little while later the moisture starts to drip back down. How do I prevent this?
Answer:
The duct should reach through (rather than to) the soffits. Your duct appears to be clogged and until you vent it to the outside, it will keep feeding moisture back. Neither should that duct be longer than about five feet. More than that and you're into rigid metal ducting with all seams and joints sealed. There should also be at least eight inches of fibre insulation over it wheather its plastic or metal.
