Expert Q
Question:
We accidentally spilled over a litre of water on the light maple hardwood floor in our kitchen. We soaked it up fast with a towel, but not before some had penetrated the cracks. Within half an hour, board ends (that butt against each other in a straight line) seemed to press against each other harder and bend upwards enough to feel it. Also, board edges, mainly on one side, warped upwards so that, when you slide your hand across the length of the boards, it's a bit like sliding your hand over a feather edge wall. It was still like that this morning. Will they dry out and return to normal, or are we cooked?
Answer:
The water must have been hot for it to have re-acted so quickly. I won't be surprised if you'll end up getting that part of the hardwood sanded, sealed and re-finished. Once hardwood expands like that it seldom, if ever, goes back to where it was.
