Question:

We want to replace our existing tiled kitchen counter with granite slab. What is the best way to remove the tiles? It was suggested that we remove the existing plywood base on which the tiles are afixed, then attaching new 5/8" plywood (as required by the granite installer). Any advice/methods?

Answer:

If you're putting granite on it, you should be able to just remove the tiles with a masonry chisel and then level things off to accept the granite. Why go to the cost and effort of replacing the base?
