Question:

The new bathroom sink and toilet, is vitreous china the same as porcelain? Are sinks made of these materials prone to cracking if you drop something on them? We don't want any kids to wreck our nice sink. Does this mean we should be buying an enameled steel one?

Answer:

I've seen so few of these sinks cracked that I would not permit the material to become a pivotal point of my renovation.
