Question:

I uncovered all the drain pipe and it is situated about 3/4" above the footings. I can just get my fingers under it. About 2" on the left side as you are looking at the foundation is the sump pump discharge pipe. They filled in the space with some kind of black tar. I have gotten out as much as I can but it left quite a hole. The foundation wall has also been treated with a coat of black stuff. What do I need to do to make sure the fiberglass will adhere properly? As you can imagine I do not have a lot of room to work with.

Answer:

Clean off the masonry in the area so the fibreglass sticks to it. As long as there is tar there though, I don't think it will adhere. You may have to do a bit of chiseling - even between the pipe and footing.
