Question:

I have a 50 year old home that has a small leak in the basement. I have found the area where the leak occurs and it generally will leak after several days of constant rain. the amount of water that comes in is small however it is a pain. This area of the basement has not been finished and the walls are bare so the area was easy to find. the actual leak is through the cinder block on the last block closest to the floor - any suggestions?

Answer:

At 50 years of age, you'd be better off to excavate around the whole house, do the repairs, apply the impermeable, dimpled sheet to all the walls, add new drainage tile (comeplete with sock), and at least a 18" of gravel before backfilling. When you're done, make sure you have good grading allt he way aorund.
