In Oct of 2003 I built a new home, 17months later the front 2 feet across the whole garage entrance (16 ft) is crumbling. One would think at first glance that salt is the problem, I have been careful to use eco friendly salts with sand mixed in. Also, why only the front and not where I park my car? The salt stains around that area far exceed (in fact there are none) any stains in the front. What I believe is the problem is that there was no expansion joint between the paved driveway and the garage floor.
Answer:
This sounds like you may have over-trowelled the concrete after pouring it. The more you trowel it, the more water comes to the surface and that weakens the finished product.
