Question:

We have a full basement of a ranch home that we want to make into a living area for a handicap accessible male. There is an elavator going to basement. I want to make the basement so that he would be able to live there and rent out upstairs if we ever moved. where do you begin? my husband can do drywall but we do not know where to began in the design of it.

Answer:

There are all kinds of agencies to help with the design and your local college's buildings faculty will be the most creative, least expensive and most relevant. Your local building authority will want to see the design when you apply for the building permit and from there, its up to you as to how much of the work you do yourselves and how much you contract out.
