Question:

I recently purchased a new home and discoverd that a lot of my exectrical boxex are extremely drafty. I don't understand how this could happen in new home construction. Is it not required by code to put a plactic cover of the box and the seal it with acustical sealant to the vapor barrier. A side from opening up the wall, what other option do I have to resolve the problem.

Answer:

In some jurisdictions you might be right as regards the plastic sheats but not in all. You can buy small sponge rubber plates that fit under the plug & switch plates to cut down on the draft.

In the interests of retaining credibility and in fairness to all, I cannot recommend prices, people nor companies for various projects.

Remember, even if you don’t do your own work around the house have to hire someone, you put yourself at a great advantage when you can intelligently discuss a project with the various trades people.
