My basement is roughed in for a bathroom, but I would like to finish the basement without putting in the bathroom. How can I remove and recap the black piping so that the flooring material can cover it? Is this even possible?
Answer:
It certainly is possible. Cut it off exactly at floor level and your plumbing store can sell you an expansion rubber cap like those used on water wells but smaller. You can then install this low enough in the pipe to permit you to place a 3/4" plywood cap over it even with the floor surface, caulk along the edges before you put it in there and thenjust apply flooring over it.
