I recently moved into a brand new home and installed my 6 year old washing machine. I am getting a musty odour in my laundry room and the plumber swears it can't be the drain. The smell gets worse when we do laundry.
Answer:
The pump in the machine appears to have built up a layer of something it cannot get rid of. Try running a rinse and spin cycle with only water and a lot of chlorine bleach through it. If the smell persists, you may have to dismantle the pump and wipe it clean.
