Question:

im adding a kitchen downstairs,my electrical panel is full.[100 amp]should i upgrade to 200 amps or ad a sub panel?all i need is the stove breaker, all my lights & plugs are there.

Answer:

You can do it both ways but if the panel is already full, I'd want to seriously consider the up-grade to 200 Amp. service. My feeling though, is that all homes should have 200 because back some decades ago, 50 Amp service was not only available, it was common; Toronto (ON) had it in general use for longer than any other major city in Canada to the best of my knowldege. Then as we added more appliances, 75 Amp and 100 Amp became not only necessary, but in many cases, not enough. The cost of the up-grade is not great enough to make it a pivotal point of the decision.
