We just pulled up carpeting throughout our house and the floors are beautiful and in great shape in all but one room. In our dining room there are gaps, up to about 1/4 inch, between the ends of the boards in one section. It looks as if the house has settled and pulled the boards apart lengthwise. Othewise the floor is OK - no buckling or gaps along the length of the boards. They won't budge and I don't want to tear up the whole floor.
Answer:
The floor will have to be pulled up and properly installed. Lengthwise gaps are installed, they do not develop with time.
