Question:

I'm planning to install hardwood floor or laminate floor (whichever one is better) in my home and would like to know all the techinical aspects of this project including for it to be warm during the winter also how to choose the right type of wood with so much on today's market?

Answer:

Only wood loks like wood and you have to start there. You take off baseboards in all the rooms you'll be working on and lay in the first strip in the largest room. You first have to make sure you'll be laying them in square though. Start by measuring 3 feet from an outside corner along that starting wall and then four feet along the adjoining wall. The corner is square if the two marked points are exactly five feet apart. This is the only room you have to do this in because when you get to the first doorway, a couple of measurements will tell you how far from the wall you'll start in the adjoining room. Once you have the flooring laid in all the rooms on one side of the house as far as the hallway, you just continue across to the other side of the house. Suface nailing may have to be done on the first boards in each room and the last board or two on the other side.
