My home is a 4 bedroom house in Nepean East built around 1967. I am considering replacing the floor, perhaps replacing a sink, repainting my kitchen and modifying the kitchen cabinets and lighting. But I don't want to spend too much money, make some changes to the style of the kitchen including the lighting to make the kitchen more serviceable. I am thinking of replacing the kitchen cabinets with synthetic-(non wood except doors I think). My first question is whether I should resurface the cabinets if the wood cabinets are superior to anything made today that is moderately priced. My second question is what is your opinion of the old kitchen cabinets versus the new ones?. I am prepared to spend $15,000 max, but my concern is I don't want to have poor quality cabinets that will fall apart in a short period of time. I have an experienced carpenter who would install cabinets, do the floor and some modifications to kitchen style and lighting for this price.

Old wooden cabinets are not normally 'easy care' so there really is no comparison of old to new.
