Question:

I live in a development in Renfrew(ON) where everyone has the standard white light post. I would like to do something different to go with my landscaping. I would like to have a cedar 4x4 and hang a lantern from it. Problem running wire up from it. I could put it up the side in a track, but would like another suggestion. One I received was cut the 4x4 in half, run a v grove up the middle for the wire, and then clamp and glue it back, another was drilling with a pipe and running it through, I do not think this will work, any suggestions.

Answer:

You could also run the wire up inside a piece of trim and and then add the same kind of trim to the other three sides of the 4X4. Another idea is to use decorative cable and wind it around the 4X4 barbar pole style but make sure you keep the windings at least six inches apart.
