I am considering installing vinyl siding over an existing stucco exterior. I would also like to put styrofoam insulation over the old exterior prior to installing the vinyl siding. Can you provide any tips for installing the vinyl siding over the stucco. in particular can I just nail into the stucco to secure the siding.

I've done this in the past and am still not a believer in putting siding over siding. Take off the stucco, strap vertically with 2X2, install rigid fibre insulation panels between the 2X2s and then nail on the siding. It works very well but you have to be prepared to metal clad around windows and doors.
