Question:

Our walkway and stairs outside are exposed aggregate. We had a local mason repair some cracks and he put epoxy over the top of it. Recently we noticed a "white powdering substance" crawling up the walkway and up the stairs. It took a week to go about 4 feet and 4 stairs, it is not powder feeling just looks like a powder. I'd like to know why it turned so suddenly. Do you know what I could do about this and I guess more importantly, can I put the epoxy on myself? What would I use?

Answer:

These are salts coming from the concrete and they can move fast but cleaning the surface will be done with a solution that you buy at a masonry outlet and not an everything outlet. You can apply it yourself.
