Question:

I noted during inspection for loose caulking etc, that a large area of shingles from a downspout to the eaves trough are badly curled and generally deformed. The area involved is about 6 feet by 2 feet. The house is ten years old. This is a shallow roof over the kitchen facing south. All other areas of the roof appear normal. Is this normal and if not, should the shingles be replaced in that area?

Answer:

I would certainly replace the effected shingles and while you're at it, you might ensure there is a good layer of ice and water shield under all the new ones.
