I have recently purchased a new home and have been hearing mixed stories on eavestroughing. Some say it's a must as it gets rid of the water from falling all around the home. Others say that it causes more problems that it solves (i.e. throughs backing up and dumping all rain the water too close to the home). I was was wondering if you have any hard facts for either the need of evestroughs or not.

I don't know of any jurisdiction where they are deemed a necessity. I just don't see any point in having them except over doorways. I'd rather address grading than pay for them.
