I had a new western red cedar deck installed last summer and subsequently finished it with a premium clear sealer. Unfortunatley this finish has demonstrated a very poor quality. It had become very splotchy and had generally worn off even the ahnd rails. I had waited the prerequisite time and used a deck wask to clean the deck before applying the finish. My question twofold, what would be the recommended method for removing the rest of the old finish. What would you recommend as a new finish given thaat the preference is to maintain a natural wood look yet provide protection from rot and mold? I had origianlly considered a natural oil would that work?
Answer:
Your favorite paint store will have a biodegradable, water-friendly oil for you to apply and it will probably be marketed by the same manufacturer as the stripper you use - they're both biodegradeable.
