Question:

We have a clay soil that retains a lot of water and our basement, although not wet, does become damp with evidence of efflorescence coming through small cracks in the floor and the first foot or so up on the walls. Is there a product we can use to paint the floor and the bottom part of the wall (concrete block) to seal the concrete? We may finish the basement in the future but not right away. We were thinking of at least painting the basement floor as a remedy. Any ideas?

Answer:

For as long as there is moisture there, no paint will stay on the walls or floor so you may have to live with that. In particular, with concrete block, this may be hard to get rid of.
