I have gutted a Century Plus ++ Wood Balloon Frame 1 1/2 Storey home. I have shimmed out all 2x4, insulted R20 and now am curious, #1 the best Drywall system and how thick for the exterior walls? #2 I am also putting a new subloor down to prepare to reuse the old 1" plank flooring. All (original)2x8 joists are exposed @ 23"O/C How thick and best choice for the sub floor?
Answer:
You should be able to vapour barrier all perimeter wall interiors along with uppermost ceilings before applying half-inch drywall. Your sub-flooring should be 5/8" T&G plywood unless you plan to use masonry flooring, in which case you'll have to have an inch-and-a-half of wood under it.
