Question:

My wife and I are moving May 1st from Aylmer, Quebec to Carleton Place, Ontario. We are moving into a century brick house. All the rooms but the kitchen have been drywalled by the previous owner but they did not touch the kitchen. We believe there are pine boards on the walls and ceilings that have been painted over. I am afraid that they may have been painted over with lead paint. How do we tell if it is lead paint? How do we safely remove it? Once we do get it removed, what is the best way to treat the pine for that beautiful wood finish?

Answer:

Removing lead paint should be left to the professionals and they have the equipment to determine if it is in fact lead based. They also have the equipment to keep themselves safe from the harmful elements in it. As far as that beautiful wood finish goes, I doubt that it will all come back.
