I have an old farm house that was moved into town, complete with old pine floors etc. I would like to remove part of the wall to open up the staircase ( as it has taken almost 2 yrs, off and on, to remove 4 coats of paint, black glue and 2 sets of tile ). I would remove from the wall, on an angle along the stringer. Any precautions I need to take or other things to consider ? It has 2 layers of lathe and plaster and 1 layer of drywall.

As you disassembe things, you'll probably run into asbestos in the plaster and that is not good so you'll hve to either take the necessary precautions or have some of it done professionally.
