Question:

110 year old farm house, one and a half stories, therefore no soffits since roof rafters sit right on brick wall. There are vents at the top of the roof, but where do I get air to come in to establish airflow? I've heard a little about attic fans, but where are they installed and where do they pull air from?

Answer:

I'd rather install windows in the gable ends and use small draw fans as low as possible to the floor. These fans can be controlled either by thermostats or manually.
