Question:

I would like to do some renovations that include plumbing changes. The problem is my main water shut-off valve seems to be stripped. I am unable to completely shut-off the water line coming into the house. My question is, who do I contact to fix this? Is this a matter for the city/water company, or do I need to contact a plumber? I am guessing I would need to turn off the outside feed to the house from teh street in order to replace this valve? As well, what implication are concerning the water meter and this main valve? Not sure if this needs to go through the city (Ottawa, ON)etc?

Answer:

This will have everything to do with both the city and a plumbing contractor. The former to shut things off and the latter to ensure a proper and credible rectification.
