In Sept 03 I bought a new bungolow duplex. The sump was running about every half hour pumping water onto the street via a hose the builder attached to the house. Is it normal for a new house to be pumping that mch water out from under the basement? When the cold weather arrived they change the plumming to pump down the drain in the basement. Is this normal? Also it seems now it is not pumping as much water as it did last fall. By looking at the eves of the row house (duplexes) which are all the same. My house looks like it is in a low area. Am I collecting all the water under my basement?
Answer:
While your house may very well be collecting water from the surrounding area, whether the sump pump and pit are acceptable to your local building authority (municipal office) is something you'll have to discuss with them. Jurisdictions differ from one-another - sometimes quite drastically.
