I wanted to know if there is any type of preventive maintenance that one can do to the various drains in the house to keep them flowing freely. In other words is there something that I can put in the drains, at set intervals, to prevent them getting clogged.

About the only preventive maintenance would be with a septic system if you are rural. There you look after the system by keeping it active but other than that, you just have to be careful what you flush down sinks and the like.
