I am a new home owner with a septic tank (never had one before) is there some place where I can get info on the do's and dont's of owning one?
Answer:
About the best I can offer: Septic systems need to be protected from winter traffic of any kind over them because if snow insulation is compacted, the whole system may freeze and thawing can take until the following summer. To aid their endurance between pumpings, only bio-degradable waste should be flushed into them. If municipal by-laws permit, a septic activator should be introduced on a monthly basis. Pumpings should be recorded and original documentation archived for the life of the system. The WWW will give you a lot more information.
